Abi's Summer Wardrobe

The weather is turning warmer here in Georgia, at least it is trending that way. So over Spring Break, my kids and I went through clothes. You know the exhausting drill of which I speak. It consists of:

  • Washing the clothes
  • Sorting the clothes
  • Trying them all on
  • Shopping for new ones

For the most part, we were lucky this year. My boys don't really need much. G needs a few pairs of jeans and a bathing suit, Declan needed a pair of non-sneaker shoes.

But, Abigail, well she needed almost a whole new wardrobe. I guess that happens when you haven't bought new clothes for years. Sure I'd occasionally pickup a new long-sleeve shirt or a pair of jeans, but the summer clothes she wore last year, she also wore the year before.

So I searched Pinterest for the perfect list of items needed to make a summer capsule wardrobe. I determined we only needed a few things to make this work, while using the clothes she had before and the few pieces that are year-round.

  • 3 pairs of shorts
  • 2 dresses
  • 3 shirts
  • 2 tanks
  • 1 sweater
  • 1 pair of flip flops
  • 1 pair of pajamas
  • 1 swimsuit cover

That was it? Not too hard, right? So we headed out on a girls' shopping adventure, to Walmart! I decided that the clothes I had seen put out by Walmart's new brand Wonder Nation would suit our needs perfectly.

I was right. They had a great selection of colors, at a price point I liked. But there were a few sizing things to note.

1 )Wonder Nation uses slightly different sizes than what I'm used to. I think they run small. Abi usually wears a size 6, which is a small most places. But in these clothes a Medium (7/8) was more her size. Just give it a quick chance to try them on.

2) I now officially dislike adjustable waist pants. Sure, they are great if your kids are skinny, but it absolutely skews the sizes for pants without this adjustable waist! So in a pair of linen shorts, the size 8 is just a little loose on Abi. But for the jeans with the adjustable waist that are also a size 8? She's swimming in them and requires the elastic to be adjusted at least five button holes on each side! Surely we can come to a happy medium here?!

So we were able to find several things in the store, and the last few online.

In the store, we bought:

  • 3 pairs of shorts
  • 2 shirts
  • 2 dresses
  • 1 nightgown
  • 1 pair of flip flops
  • 1 bathing suit cover

Online I bought:

  • 2 tanks and 1 cardigan

And with that, we have a wardrobe to take us through the rest of the school year, the summer, and maybe, just maybe, the start of next school year too!

Travel? With an infant? Yes, you really can!
