Veterans Day is a fun day for our family, as we get to spoil our favorite veteran. Sometimes we send him off to golf in silence, other times we cook him a big meal. When we lived in Arizona, we’d start the day with a parade honoring all veterans.
This year, the elementary school has a veterans day program, and my daughter is performing in it. So we’ll head tt the school on Friday and start the celebrating early.
If you’re looking for ways to spoil your veteran – or yourself – this year, check out this list of discounts, freebies, and coupons at some local Augusta/Fort Gordon businesses.
Want to go shopping and save a little cash? These places are offering some discounts this weekend.
Receive a 10% discount off of your in-store purchase on Sunday, November 11th with your military ID card, veteran ID card, discharge document, or a driver’s license with a veteran designation. (You can’t use this to buy booze though – read the rest of the rules here.)
You may have seen that Target is offering a coupon for a one-time 10% discount from now through November 12th. To claim your coupon, fill out this form here. And yes, this counts for online purchases too.
Here’s a steal of a deal, especially for those veterans who like to keep that high and tight well maintained. Grab a free haircut on Sunday, November 11th with your military id or proof of service. There are several places close to Fort Gordon where you can get your haircut.
Restaurants – Sunday, November 11th
The adage, “there’s no such thing as a free lunch” doesn’t apply to veterans on veterans day! Check out these great deals and the local restaurants that you can visit.
Chili’s is offering a complimentary meal from a select menu of entrees on Sunday, November 11th. On that menu are some favorites, including the Chicken Bacon Ranch Quesadillas, the Just Bacon Burger, and a bowl of chili or soup and salad.
Active duty and retired military who present their proof of service and buy a drink will receive a free meal from Hooters on Veterans Day. Their select menu includes six of their most popular entrees including the buffalo chicken salad and sandwich and 10-piece wings of your choice (traditional, smoked, or boneless.)
Veterans can enjoy a free meal at Applebee’s – from their select menu – on Veterans Day by showing proof of service. They have eight entrees available and this is their 11th year of providing a free meal on November 11th.
My favorite coffee place in the whole world is also honoring veterans this year by giving away a free donut. You’ll want to plan on buying a coffee too, trust me. (Now who do we have to talk to to get a Dunkin’ on Fort Gordon?)
Head on over to the Golden Corral on Bobby Jones Expressway and treat your veteran to a free dinner on Monday, November 12th. Military Appreciation Night will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Over the past 17 years, Golden Corral has served over 5.4 million meals to veterans.
Restaurants – Monday, November 12th
Order from a select menu and receive your meal free at the Augusta Twin Peaks restaurant on Monday for either lunch or dinner. Also, if you buy one of their calendars, they’ll send one downrange to those deployed.
Chick-Fil-A is definitely a crowd favorite, and the Grovetown location is opening their doors to veterans for a free meal on Monday, November 12th from 5 to 8 p.m.
As you can see, the Fort Gordon area has quite a few options for meals out and discounts over Veterans Day weekend. Have you seen others that we should share? Let me know in the comments!
